3. Sharpen both ends of blade at original angle
(25˚), removing equal amounts of material from
each end to maintain proper blade balance. New
blades are balanced to within 1.3 in. oz. (93.6 cm
g) at factory, DO NOT grind around corner at tip of
blade. If cutting edge of blade cannot be
sharpened in a straight line to within 1/8" (3mm)
of its end, replace with Ariens replacement blade
only.
4. Install blade, lock washer(s) and tighten cap
screw(s) until lock washer is compressed to
25-30 ft. lbs. (34-47 Nm) torque on nuts.
IMPORTANT: If mower is used under sandy soil
conditions, replace blades when air lifts become
eroded.
CLEAN UNIT
Remove all grass and debris from area around engine
and debris screen on top of engine. A clogged screen
will cause the engine to overheat. Remove debris from
vents on hood.
CHECK ENGINE/BLADE CONTROL
The engine/blade control must stop the engine and
blade within 3 seconds after the bail is released. If the
engine or blade continues to run, adjust or repair
control immediately.
CHECK GRASS BAG
Check bag for wear or damage. Keep bag clean and
dry. Replace only with Ariens original equipment
replacement bag.
ADJUSTING WHEEL DRIVE TENSION
Increase wheel drive tension if wheel drive slips or
won't engage. Decrease wheel drive tension if the drive
will not stop when Wheel Drive Control is disengaged.
Turn Wheel Drive Tension Control counterclockwise to
increase tension. Turn clockwise to decrease tension.
WARNING: FLAMMABLE FUEL and its
EXPLOSIVE VAPORS can cause death or
serious injury. DO NOT store unit inside a
building with fuel in the fuel tank where any
ignition sources are present. Drain fuel
outdoors away from any ignition source. Allow
engine to cool before storing in any enclosure.
Only use approved fuel containers.
When storing unit:
1. Inspect mower for signs of wear or damage. Order
any parts required and make necessary repairs to
avoid delays when beginning use again.

CHECK DRIVE CONTROL
Check operation of drive control. The drive must
disengage completely when Wheel Drive Control is
released.
CHECK FASTENERS
Check all fasteners for proper tightness. Pay special
attention to blade hardware and all guards, shields and
safety devices.
CLEAN COOLING FINS
Engine is air cooled. Air must circulate freely around
engine from Air Intake to cooling fins on cylinder head
and block, to prevent overheating.
WARNING: HOT SURFACES can cause
death or serious injury. DO NOT TOUCH parts
which are hot from operation. ALWAYS allow
parts to cool.
Every 50 hours of operation or yearly (more often if
conditions require) remove cooling shrouds and clean
cooling fins. Clean external surfaces of engine of dust,
dirt and oil deposits which can contribute to improper
cooling.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT operate engine with shrouds
removed or engine overheating damage will result.
2. Remove Grass Bag and clean out all debris prior
to storage. Grass Bag may be stored in position
on mower. Keep Grass Bag dry during storage.
3. When storing unit for extended periods of time,
remove all fuel from tank and carburetor (run dry).
Refer to Engine Manual.
4. Clean unit thoroughly. Touch up all areas to
prevent rust. Matching touch up paint is available
from your Ariens Dealer.
IMPORTANT: NEVER spray unit with water or store
outdoors.
5. Store mower in a cool, dry, protected location.
