Adjusting the volume of a phrase (Phrase Parameter)

The volume of a recorded phrase can be adjusted after it has been recorded. The
Phrase Parameter function lets you fade-in or fade-out individual phrases.

To fade-in a phrase

Here's how to use Phrase Parameter to fade-in a phrase.
1.
On the VS-2480/2480CD, press [TRACK] to access the Track Edit
menu. Press [F6 (Reg Ph)] (or [REGION/PHRASE]) so it lights in
green. Press PAGE 3 [F1 (PARAM)]. In the VGA screen, click
"TRACK" in the menu to select "PHRASE PARAMETER." The
Phrase Parameter screen will appear.
2.
Select the phrase that you want to fade-in.
3.
Press (click) [F1 (PARAM)]. Now you can edit the following
parameters.
• PHRASE LEVEL
The level that will be reached when the fade-in is complete. Alternatively, the
level from which the fade-out will begin.
• FADE IN TIME, FADE OUT TIME
The time over which the fade-in and fade-out will occur.
• FADE IN CURVE, FADE OUT CURVE
Select the curve by which the fade-in or fade-out will change the volume. "Linear"
will change the phrase volume in a straight line. "Exp" will change the volume
exponentially. This will produce a subjective impression of linear change.
Volume change for playback from the middle of the phrase
If a phrase whose volume is controlled by the phrase parameters is played back
from the middle of the phrase, the volume will change in a different way than
specified by the FADE IN TIME parameter. If you locate to a time location within
the phrase, processing will occur as follows.
Example) With FADE IN TIME=10.00 sec., locate to a location 3 seconds
from the beginning, and then play back.
Normally, fade-in would set the
level to minus infinity at the
beginning of the phrase, and the
PHRASE LEVEL would be
reached at a point 10 seconds
from the beginning of the
phrase. However, if you play back from a point 3 seconds after the beginning of the
phrase, the level will change in 7 seconds from minus infinity to the PHRASE
LEVEL. This same change will also occur for fade-out.
