- Page 3 C h a p t e r Before You Start Chapter 1: Before you start setting up DiskStation, please check the package contents to verify that you have received the items below. Please also read the safety instructions carefully before use to prevent your DiskStation from any damages.
- Page 4 The Expansion port is used to connect Synology Expansion Unit Expansion Port Back Panel Synology DiskStation. The fan is built to exhaust waste heat out of Synology DiskStation. It will start automatically when the server starts. If the fan is malfunctioning, system will Back Panel beep every 1 second.
- Page 5 Before cleaning, unplug the power cord first. Wipe Synology product with damp paper towels. Do not use chemical or aerosol cleaners to clean it. Do not place the Synology product on a cart, table, or desk, which is not stable to avoid the product from falling over.
- Page 6 A screwdriver At least one 3.5” or 2.5” SATA hard disk (Please visit www.synology.com for compatible hard disk models.) Warning: If you install a hard disk that contains data, system will format the hard disk and erase all data. If you need the data in the future, please back it up before installation.
- Page 7 3 Load the hard disk in the hard drive tray. For 3.5” Hard Disk: Place the hard disk in the hard drive tray, and then tighten the screws to secure the hard disk. For 2.5” Hard Disk: Place the hard disk in the blue area (shown below) of the hard drive tray, turn the tray upside down, and then tighten the screws to secure the hard disk.
- Page 8 Add a RAM Module on DiskStation Synology RAM module 1GB/2GB is designed for DiskStation memory expansion, and is optional for your choice. Follow the steps below to install, check, or remove your RAM module.
- Page 9 2 Remove the 2 screws that secure the side cover. Then remove the cover and place it to the side. Important: When you remove the case, you expose sensitive internal components. - Page 11 Start Up Your DiskStation 1 Connect one end of the power cord to the Power port of DiskStation, and the other to the power outlet. 2 Use the LAN cable to connect DiskStation to your switch/router/hub. 3 Push the Power button on the front panel to turn on your DiskStation. Your DiskStation is now online and detectable from a network computer.
- Page 12 1 Insert the installation disc into your computer, and click Start. Follow the onscreen instructions to complete the setup process. 2 Synology Assistant will be installed and launched on your computer. It will search and find your DiskStation in LAN, and the status of your DiskStation should be Installed.
- Page 13 DiskStation Manager will be blank. After the installation process is finished, you can manage your DiskStation with Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM). For more information about managing your DiskStation with DSM, refer to Synology DiskStation User’s Guide available at Synology Download Center.
