To Ready Scale for Use

  1. Remove the scale from its box along with its stainless steel platform cover. Remove any packaging between the platform and the black scale base.
  2. Place the scale on a hard, flat surface. Uneven surfaces will affect accuracy. If using the AC adapter, make sure the scale is not resting on the cord, otherwise it may be unstable.
  3. Place the platform cover over the black platform base on top of the scale unit. Remove any protective film from the platform.

Power Sources

This scale operates on an AC adapter (included) or 2 AAA batteries (not included).

Electrical Power

To power the scale using the adapter, gently pull back the rubber stopper from the jack at the back of the scale. Insert the connector plug into the jack and plug the other end into the proper electrical outlet. If the adapter is not in use, leave in the rubber stopper to protect the jack from dust and other debris.

Battery Power

To power the scale with 2 AAA batteries (not included):

  1. Use 2 AAA batteries (not included. Remove any plastic wrap from the batteries before proceeding). Always replace all batteries at the same time; do not combine old and new batteries. Do not mix Alkaline, carbon-zinc (standard) or Nickel-Cadmium (rechargeable) batteries.
  2. Open the battery compartment on the bottom of the scale.
  3. Place the batteries into the battery compartment according to the "+" and "-" polarity symbols in the compartment.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover.
  5. Replace all the batteries if "bAtt" appears on the screen or if readings grow dim.

General Weighing Operation

  1. Place the scale on a hard, level surface.
  2. Press the "ON/OFF/TARE" button to turn the scale on. The display first shows "---", followed by zero. If the display does not show zero, press the "ON/OFF/TARE" button to reset (tare) the scale to zero.
  3. The scale is set at the factory to weigh in pounds/ounces. While the scale is on, press the "UNIT/ HOLD" button to switch to gram units of measurement. (Note: The scale will retain the last unit used when it is turned off and on again.)
  4. Place the item to be weighed onto the platform. The display will count up to the weight of the item. As you add weight, the weight displayed increases. When all the weight is removed, the display will return to zero.
  5. If the scale is operating on battery power, it will automatically turn off after approximately 2 minutes of nonuse. Press and hold the "ON/OFF/TARE" button to turn the scale off manually. If the scale is operating on adapter power, it will remain on until the "ON/OFF/TARE" button is manually pressed.

Tare Operation

You may wish to weigh ingredients in a bowl or other container (not included). In this case, you will need to tare, or offset, the weight of the bowl so that only the weight of the ingredients is displayed.

  1. Choose a container that will safely balance on the platform without tipping or falling. Do not use a heavy container, as this might reduce the maximum capacity of the scale.
  2. While the scale is off, place the empty container on the scale platform. Turn the scale on. The display will show "---" then zero. The weight of the container has been zeroed out.
  3. Add the ingredient to be weighed. The weight of the ingredient alone will display.
  4. The weight of additional ingredients may be tared out as well. For example, to measure 0.5 lb rice and 0.5 lb beans together, place the rice into the bowl. Once the correct amount of rice is weighed, press the "ON/OFF/TARE" button. The screen shows "---" then resets to zero. Add 0.5 lb of beans. Both ingredients have been accurately weighed in the same bowl.
  5. When weights have been tared out, the display will show a negative number when the items are removed from the scale. To reset the scale back to zero for a new measurement, simply press the "ON/OFF/TARE" button again. The scale will reset to zero.

Hold Function

When the "HOLD" function is turned on, the LCD screen will continue to display the weight after the item is removed from the platform.

To turn on the Hold function:

  1. While the scale is on, place the item to be weighed on the platform.
  2. Press and hold the "UNIT/HOLD" button for 2 seconds. A blinking "HOLD" icon appears. When the weight is locked in, the "HOLD" icon will stop blinking, indicating the weight will be "held" on the LCD when the item is removed. The weight will be held for 15 seconds.
  3. The Hold function will automatically turn off after 15 seconds. "HOLD" will disappear from the screen. The Hold function is automatically disabled when the scale turns off.

Notes:

  • Other functions will not operate when the scale is in the "HOLD" mode.
  • The "HOLD" function can only operate if the weight is stable on the platform. If the weight is unstable, check to see that the scale platform rests properly on the scale. If necessary, move the item slightly on the platform until the weight locks in.
