[AF MODE]

Setting the focus method

MENU
Press [
] to display the [REC] mode
SET
menu and select the item to set. (P82)
Select the mode that matches the
recording conditions and the composition.
9-area-focusing:
The camera focuses on
any of 9 focus areas.
This is effective when
the subject is not in the
center of the screen.
3-area-focusing (High speed):
The camera quickly
focuses on any of
3 focus areas points –
left, right or center. This
is effective when the
subject is not in the
center of the screen.
1-area-focusing (High speed):
The camera quickly
focuses on the subject
in the AF area on the
center of the screen.
1-area-focusing:
The camera focuses on
the subject in the AF
area on the center of
the screen.
Spot-focusing:
The camera focuses on
a limited narrow area in
the screen.

• You can focus on the subject more quickly
than other AF modes.
• The picture may stop moving for a
moment before being brought into focus
when you press the shutter button
halfway. This is not a malfunction.
Selecting the AF area
When selecting 1-area-focusing or
1-area-focusing (High speed), the AF area
can be selected as shown in the following
figure. When using Spot you can also move
the spot metering target to match the AF
area.
Set the Focus switch to [AF] or
[AF MACRO].
While pressing the [FOCUS] button, use
/ / /
to move the AF area.
FOCUS
Release the [FOCUS] button to set.
• The following operations will return the AF
area to the previous one
– Setting the mode dial to auto mode

].
– Turning the camera off.
• The AF area displayed on the center of
the screen is bigger than usual when
using the digital zoom or when taking
pictures in dark places.
