READ THIS INSTRUCTION BEFORE USE

When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:

  1. Read all instructions.
  2. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they are closely supervised and instructed concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
  3. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.

  13. To disconnect, push up the switch and then remove plug from wall outlet.

  15. Lift and open cover carefully to avoid scalding, and allow water to drip into the cooking pot.

  17. Do not place the unit directly under cabinets when operating as this product produces large amounts of steam. Avoid reaching over the product when operating.

Electrical Shock Hazard: This appliance is provided with a polarized plug (one wide blade) to reduce the risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a polarized outlet. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in any way or by using an adapter. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, have an electrician replace the outlet.
The length of the cord used on this appliance was selected to reduce the hazards of becoming tangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If a longer cord is necessary, an approved extension cord may be used. The electrical rating of the extension cord must be equal to or greater than the rating of the appliance. Care must be taken to arrange the extension cord so that it will not drape over the countertop or tabletop where it can be pulled on by children or accidentally tripped over.

How to Cook Rice, Grain, and Cereal


Electrical Shock Hazard. Cook only in removable cooking pot. Never place water or food directly into the base.

Steam from steam vent can cause injury.
BEFORE FIRST USE: Wash all removable parts before using. See Care and Cleaning for details.

  1. Measure rice with rice measuring cup. Add the desired amount of measured uncooked rice to steamer basket. Do not fill above side vents to prevent rice from falling through while rinsing. Place basket under a slow-flowing faucet and rinse. Add drained rice to cooking pot. Repeat rinsing with any remaining rice.

  2. Follow charts on pages 6 and 7 for cooking amounts, times, and yields. Fill with water to corresponding water line.
    Example: If you add 3 level rice cups of rice to the cooking pot, add water to the "3" line of the cooking pot.

  3. Place cooking pot securely into the base.
    warning NOTE: Make sure bottom of cooking pot is not bent or warped, or it will not conduct heat correctly.
  4. Add lid to cooking pot.

  5. Plug into outlet. The WARM light will illuminate BUT UNIT IS NOT COOKING.

  6. Press cook switch down to begin cooking.

  7. COOK light will illuminate.

  8. When finished cooking, cooker Unplug. will switch automatically to WARM and light will illuminate.

  9. Unplug.

Rice Cooking Chart

  • Chart is based on measuring rice and water with the rice measuring cup provided.
  • There are many different types of rice. Rice packaging directions may call for different amounts of rice and water from the chart; following package directions may vary results.
  • Do not exceed MAX fill line to prevent overflow while rice is cooking.

How to Steam Food


Electrical Shock Hazard. Cook only in removable cooking pot and steamer basket. Never place water or food directly into the base.

Steam from steam vent can cause injury.

  1. Fill cooking pot with 2 rice measuring cups of water.

  2. Place cooking pot securely into the base.
    warning NOTE: Make sure bottom of cooking pot is not bent or warped, or it will not conduct heat correctly.

  3. Add food to steamer basket according to the Steam Cooking Chart.

  4. Place steamer basket into cooking pot.

  5. Add lid to cooking pot.

  6. Plug into outlet.

  7. The WARM light will illuminate BUT UNIT IS NOT COOKING.

  8. Press cook switch down to begin cooking.

  9. COOK light will illuminate. Steam food to desired doneness. See approximate cooking times on chart. Unit automatically switches to WARM when all water is evaporated. NOTE: If unit switches to WARM and food needs more steaming, add water to cooking pot and push down switch to cook.

  10. Using an oven mitt, remove food from steamer basket.

  11. Unplug.

How to Steam Food While Cooking Rice

  1. Follow charts on pages 13 and 14 for cooking amounts, times, and yields. Fill with water to corresponding water line. Example: If you add 3 level cups of rice to the cooking pot, add water to the "3" line of the cooking pot.
    warning NOTE: Some foods should be added to the steamer basket at the start of cooking rice and others need to be added when steaming starts heavily from the lid vent.

  2. Place cooking pot securely into the base.
    warning NOTE: Make sure bottom of cooking pot is not bent or warped, or it will not conduct heat correctly.
  3. Add food to steamer basket.

  4. Place steamer basket into cooking pot.

  5. Add lid to cooking pot.

  6. Plug into outlet. The WARM light will illuminate BUT UNIT IS NOT COOKING.
  7. Press cook switch down to begin cooking.

  8. COOK light will illuminate.

  9. Remove lid to check doneness of food in steamer basket.
    warning NOTE: To check steamed food during rice cooking time, use caution and an oven mitt while lifting lid. If food is done, remove food with spatula from steamer basket to serving bowl/platter.

  10. Using an oven mitt, remove steamer basket.

  11. Add lid to cooking pot.

  12. When finished cooking rice, cooker will automatically switch to WARM mode and light will illuminate.

  13. Unplug.

Steaming Food With Rice Chart

Chart is based on measuring rice and water with the rice measuring cup provided. If you lose the rice measuring cup, one rice measuring cup equals 6 oz. (177 ml) or approximately 3/4 cup U.S. measure, or follow the recommended two parts water to one part rice.

Care and Cleaning


Electrical Shock Hazard. Do not immerse base, cord, or plug in water or other liquid.

  1. Unplug.

  2. Wipe cooking pot with a damp cloth or sponge. To remove stubborn spots, use a mild nonabrasive cleanser.


    Cooking pot and lid are dishwasher-safe. Steamer basket, rice measuring cup, and rice paddle are dishwasher-safe for top rack only.

    DO NOT use the "SANI" setting when washing in the dishwasher. "SANI" cycle temperatures could damage your product.

Troubleshooting

PROBLEM PROBABLE CAUSE/SOLUTION

Cooker doesn't turn on

  • Cooker is not plugged in. Make sure rice cooker is plugged into a properly operating electrical outlet.

Rice is not cooked

  • Not enough water/cooking liquid. Follow package directions or see Rice Cooking Chart for more information.
  • Place cooking pot securely into the base.
    warning NOTE: If cooking pot is bent or warped, it will not seat properly in base and, therefore, will not conduct heat correctly. To replace cooking pot, call the tollfree Customer Assistance number listed on the cover of this guide.
  • Let rice rest for 10 to 15 minutes after cooking is complete and rice cooker has switched to WARM.

Rice is mushy

  • Too much liquid added to cooking pot. Reduce liquid.
