Connect t he m ale 9- pin end of t he console cable t o t he console port of t he Swit ch. Connect t he

fem ale end t o a serial port ( COM1, COM2 or ot her COM port ) of your com put er.

2.1.1.1 Default Ethernet Negotiation Settings

The fact ory default negot iat ion set t ings for t he Gigabit port s on t he Swit ch are:

• Speed: Aut o

• Duplex: Aut o

• Flow cont rol: Off

• Link Aggregat ion: Disabled

2.1.1.2 Auto-crossover

All port s are aut o- crossover, t hat is aut o- MDI X port s ( Media Dependent I nt erface Crossover) , so

you m ay use eit her a st raight- t hrough Et hernet cable or crossover Et hernet cable for all Gigabit port

connect ions. Aut o- crossover port s aut om at ically sense whet her t hey need t o funct ion as crossover

or st raight port s, so crossover cables can connect bot h com put ers and swit ches/ hubs.

2.1.2 Transceiver Slots

These are slot s for m ini- GBI C ( Gigabit I nt erface Convert er) t ransceivers or 100 Mbps Sm all Form -

fact or Pluggable ( SFP) t ransceivers. A t ransceiver is a single unit t hat houses a t ransm it t er and a

receiver. The Swit ch does not com e wit h t ransceivers. You m ust use t ransceivers t hat com ply wit h

t he SFP Transceiver Mult iSource Agreem ent ( MSA) . See t he SFF com m it t ee's I NF- 8074i

specificat ion Rev 1.0 for det ails.

You can change t ransceivers while t he Swit ch is operat ing. You can use different t ransceivers t o

connect t o Et hernet swit ches wit h different t ypes of fiber- opt ic or even copper cable connect ors.

To avoid possible eye injury, do not look into an operating fiber-optic

module's connectors.

• Connect ion speed: 1 Gigabit per second ( Gbps) or 1 Megabit per second ( Mbps)

2.1.2.1 Transceiver Installation

Use t he following st eps t o inst all a m ini- GBI C t ransceiver ( SFP m odule) .

I nsert t he t ransceiver int o t he slot wit h t he exposed sect ion of PCB board facing down.

Press t he t ransceiver firm ly unt il it clicks int o place.
