The DIP Switches
Whereas it is possible to change various functions temporarily using
control codes or <ESC> sequences, it is frequently more con-
venient to have the printer defaults set in a particular configuration
when the printer is switched on. There are several tin)' switches
called DIP (for Dual In-Line Package) switches on the back h
GX-80 printer. They control a number of important printer func-
tions such as page length, the international character set and NLQ
or draft mode printing. For most uses they can be left as they were
set at the factory, but you may need to change some settings to suit
your computer system or the type of work you are doing with the
GX-80.
The design of the GX-80 gives you easy access to the switches. You
can see them in a pair of recesses on the back of the printer as shown
in Figure D-1.
