Troubleshooting
– Make sure that the sampling probe is properly sealed with the
test jack.
– Restart the leak test.
– Check the sampling probe for leaks and replace if necessary.
– Check the sampling hose for leaks and replace if necessary.
– Replace filter GF1 and make sure you fit it tightly.
– Replace filter GF2 and make sure it sits tightly.
– Fit filters GF3 and GF4 tightly.
If this does not solve the problem, contact your Bosch After-Sales
Service representative and quote the error message displayed.

4.2 Prerequisites for an exhaust-gas measurement

– The engine must be at normal operating temperature (oil
temperature > 60 °C).
– Starting aids (automatic and manual) must be off.
– The exhaust pipe must have no leaks.
– The ignition timing (dwell angle, firing point and idle speed) of
the engine must be as specified by the manufacturer.

4.3 Preparations for an exhaust-gas measurement

Danger! Exhaust fumes are poisonous!
Exhaust fumes must be extracted from confined spa-
ces. With exhaust systems with one silencer, but two
tail pipes, both tailpipes must be fed into a common
collector pipe.
It is possible when connecting the clamp-on pickup that
physical injury and/or damage to property may arise
due to flashover if the ignition system is faulty. For this
reason, always connect an earthing lead before opera-
ting the exhaust-gas analyser.
Danger of tripping!
The sampling hose must be run in such a way that no-
one can trip over it.
i The sampling probe (19) must only be inserted into the
exhaust pipe once the measurement has already been
started (see section 4.6).
Turn the engine and ignition off.
When measuring exhaust gases upstream of the catalytic
converter, use the entire length of the sampling hose (6 m)
between the measuring instrument and the sampling point.
Observe the max. permissible temperature for the
sampling hose (max. 200 °C).
The filter (18) must also be used.
Note the following points when measuring using the ETT 6.22
exhaust-gas measuring instrument with engine-speed and oil-
temperature measurement (special accessories):
Connect terminal B- of the connecting cable to the negative
(-) battery terminal or vehicle earth.
Attach the inductive trigger clamp-on pickup to an ignition
cable in the engine compartment in such a way that it is as
far away from the other ignition cables as possible.
In the user menu, set the number of ignition pulses (see
section 5.2).
Push the grommet up or down the oil-temperature sensor
(special accessory) so that it has the same length as the oil
dipstick.
Insert the oil-temperature sensor (special accessory) into
the engine block in place of the dipstick.
Start the engine.

4.4 Re-adjusting using test gas

One of the features of the measuring instrument is its excellent
long-term stability with respect to the accuracy of its measure-
ments. Nevertheless, statutory requirements may mean that the
instrument has to be re-adjusted at regular intervals.
The After-Sales Service Department sets the required parame-
ters in the unit.

4.5 Maintenance intervals

Regular maintenance work is essential in order to ensure the
reliability and measurement accuracy of the instrument.
We recommend that you conclude a service contract with your
Bosch representative.
For maintenance instructions, see section 8.
