Problem
The fuel tank in a vehi-
cle with a diesel engine
has been run com-
pletely dry and the
engine will not start.
Possible causes/consequences and X X Solutions
There is air in the fuel system.
Refuel the vehicle (at least 5 litres).

Turn the ignition on for at least 10 seconds. Turn the key to
X
position 2 ( page 75) in the ignition lock.
Y
Start the engine continuously for up to 10 seconds until it runs
X
smoothly.
Or:
Start the engine via the touch-start function. To do this, turn the
X
key to position 3 ( page 75) in the ignition lock and then release
Y
it immediately.
The fuel system is now free of air.
If the engine does not start:
Turn the ignition on again for at least 10 seconds. Turn the key
X
to position 2 ( page 75) in the ignition lock.
Y
Start the engine again continuously for up to 10 seconds until
X
it runs smoothly.
Or:
Start the engine again via the touch-start function.
X
If the engine does not start after three attempts:
Consult a qualified specialist workshop.
