    O3-4D1L3 U2 1631, Issue 4, October 2009 3. FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION Up to four DS1 circuits are combined into a single OC3 signal by using VT1.5 and STS-1 mapping; DS1 numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4 are mapped into STS-1 VT1.5 #1 positions 1, 2, 3, and 4, respectively.

    B. DS1 Circuitry Each DS1 is provisioned for alternate mark inversion (AMI) or B8ZS line coding. Superframe, extended superframe, or unframed formats are supported. Each DS1 pulse template meets ANSI T1.102. Each DS1 port is provisioned for digital signal cross-connect (DSX-1) type interface (short haul), with line build-outs (LBOs) appropriate to service line lengths from 0 to 655 feet as well as 0, 7.5, or 15 dB.

Select and Install Mounting The O3-4D1L3 is designed to be plugged into Type 3192 shelves, including those installed in RT cabinets according to normal practices. The unit occupies two card slots. Follow the manufacturer’s detailed instructions for mounting the shelf and making power connections.

    O3-4D1L3 U2 1631, Issue 4, October 2009 F. Make DS1 Connections The O3-4D1L3 module has a female AMP CHAMP front-panel connector that is designed to be used with a screw-lock connector hood. Pulsecom cable AMP-MSL/U24Sxxx should be used. See Table 6, Procedure 4, and Figure 1.

To respond to DS1 loopbacks, the O3-4D1L3 must be provisioned as an NT (CPE-side) unit (LT is default), have its loopbacks enabled (disabled is default), and be provisioned for either ESF (default) or SF operation.

    O3-4D1L3 U2 1631, Issue 4, October 2009 During a loopback, an alarm indication signal is sent to the DS1 Tip1/Ring1 (receive) pair. However, if the unit receives (from the OC3 fiber link) an AIS signal in the DS1 circuit being looped back, the O3-4D1L3 loopback will be deactivated to prevent the AIS from being transmitted back into the OC3 fiber link.
