Reel Cut Height Adjustment
WARNING: MOVING PARTS can cut or amputate
body parts. ALWAYS wait for moving parts to stop
before performing maintenance or service.
The front and rear rollers of each mower reel determine the cutting
height. Adjust the rollers up or down to achieve the desired cutting
height and to ensure that each unit is cutting level. This procedure
must be carried out at the front and rear and at both sides of each
mower reel to ensure an even cut height across the mower unit.
This procedure requires use of Cutting Height Adjustment Bar (p/n
02374800).
To adjust the cutting height (Figure 18):
1. Place mowing reels in the transport position.
2. Adjust rollers (1) to minimum height by releasing locknuts (2)
and moving the rollers upwards.
3. Set the desired cutting height on the adjusting bar front
adjusting screw (3) as indicated by dimension A.
4. Position the adjusting bar (4) with the head of the front
adjusting screw resting on the top lip of the be knife (5).
Tighten the rear adjusting screw (6) until it contacts the
bedknife holder with the adjusting bar parallel to the bedknife.
5. Adjust the roller cut height adjusters until the rollers just
contact the adjusting bar. Do not overtighten. The adjusting bar
should be loose enough to be slid forward without loosening
the adjusting screw.
6. Tighten the locknuts and remove the adjusting bar.

Reel-to-Bedknife Adjustment
1. Loosen the locking screws (both sides, Figure 19 & Figure 20)
until the washer can be moved by hand.
2. Turn one adjusting screw slowly while rotating the reel by
hand. When reel-to-bedknife contact is made, back off the
screw slightly and adjust the other side.
NOTE: 1/6 of a turn equals .004" change in adjustment of the
reel-to-bedknife. When light contact is made, check the cut with
double thickness of a sheet of newspaper. If one side cuts and the
other does not, back off the tight side and tighten the loose side.
Retighten locking screws.
IMPORTANT: The ideal setting maintains an extremely light
reel-to-bedknife contact with a clearance of.000 – .004"
(.000 – .102 mm).
• If the reel blades and bedknife are too far apart grass will not
be cut because the grass will pass between the gap
between the reel and bedknife.
• If the blades contact too heavily the increased friction will
cause excessive wear and increase the power required to
drive the mower unit.
