AMD64/EM64T on xw9300 May Panic When Booting the SMP Kernel

DESCRIPTION

The HP workstation xw9300 may panic when booting the x86_64 SMP kernel in Red Hat Enterprise
Linux (RHEL) 4 WS Update 1.

SCOPE

HP xw9300 Workstation with RHEL WS 4 Update 1.
Two processors (single or dual core)
2GB of memory per processor for a total of 4 GB of memory
RESOLUTION
NOTE: This issue is resolved in RHEL4U2. If you are using RHEL4U1, then the following resolution still
applies.
To avoid the issue, HP recommends disabling Memory Remapping by performing the following steps:
1. Reboot the workstation.
2. When you see the blue highlighted "F1: Boot" message, press F10 for Computer Setup Utility.
3. Select your language.
4. Use the Arrow keys to move across to Advanced.
5. Use the Arrow keys to move down to Chipset/Memory.
6. Use the Arrow keys to move down to Memory Remapping.
7. Use the Right Arrow key to set the entry to "Disable".
8. Press F10 to Accept, Press F10 again followed by the Enter key and press F10 one last time to
save the changes.
9. Proceed with the install as usual.
A resolution to allow for Memory Remapping to be enabled is expected in RHEL4U2.
x86 or AMD64/EM64T NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 Graphic Card - Is not
Supported by the August 2005 HP Installer Kit for Linux
DESCRIPTION
The graphics driver 71.74 in the August 2005 HP Installer kit for Linux (HPIKL) does not support the
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card. After installing Linux using the current HPIKL, X will not be
displayed.
SCOPE
HP xw4300, xw6200, xw8200, and xw9300 Workstations with the following:
HP Installer Kit for Linux-HP Driver CD for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 1.
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Update 1 (x86, x86_64).
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card.
RESOLUTION
Install Nvidia graphics driver 76.76 or later from the HP support web pages:
1. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/workstationsupport to download NVIDIA graphics driver
76.76 or later.
2. Un-install the current graphics driver.
3. Reboot the workstation.
4. Install the NVIDIA driver downloaded from the HP Workstation support site.
