DESCRIPTION

Support for sound on the xw4300, xw6400 and xw8400 is provided with the HP Driver CD.
The support is limited to the SMP kernel; no alsa sound support is delivered for the UP kernel.

HP xw4300, xw6400 or xw8400 Workstation with RHEL3U7 WS

RESOLUTION

HP recommends
Boot the SMP kernel instead of the UP kernel.

If sound still does not function:
•
1. Adjust and unmute system volume, use 'alsamixer'.
2. Download the latest alsa rpm.
a. Go to http://www.hp.com/go/workstationsupport to download the latest ALSA
Sound Support.
b. Follow the Release Notes to install and configure sound.

RESOLUTION
HP recommends that you boot the SMP kernel with the additional boot option "acpi=off noapic".
