Operation

1.
Test the unit on a known functioning circuit. If it does not function as
expected, return the unit to Greenlee for repair.
2.
Perform the desired tests using the procedures below.
Polarity Test
• The Polarity feature does not perform a comprehensive diagnostic
test; it performs a simple test to detect nearly all probable common
improper wiring conditions.
• Refer all indicated problems to a qualified electrician.
• This tool will not indicate the quality of ground, detect two hot wires in
a circuit, detect a combination of defects, or detect reversal of
grounded and grounding conductors.
Failure to observe these precautions can result in injury and can damage
the unit.
1.
Unplug all appliances or equipment on the circuit being tested to help
avoid erroneous readings.
2.
Plug the AFI-100 into any standard 120 V three-wire receptacle.
Compare the LEDs illuminated on the AFI-100 to the "Polarity Indicator"
illustration on the previous page.
Note: If the LEDs indicate anything other than "CORRECT", have the
wiring corrected by a qualified electrician.
3.
Repeat step 2 for every receptacle on the circuit.
