5.0 SETTING UP THE SEATING SYSTEM

The average wheelchair does not exist. This is why Sunrise Medical wheelchairs can be pre-set according to
specifi c needs of the user.
Pre-settings are carried out once, the fi rst time the wheelchair is going to be used. They must be executed by a
qualifi ed specialist, unless explicitly stated otherwise.
Tool and calibration marks
A M5 Allen key should be used by a professional for adjusting all the seating system settings.
5.1 Pre-set seat depth adjustment (Fig 5.1 - Fig. 5.3)
The seat depth can be adjusted in one inch increments.
For Standard Angle Adjustable Backrest (Fig. 5.1):
1.
To adjust, remove the two bolts (A and B) from each side of the backrest pivot plate.
2.
Reposition the backrest to the desired position.
3.
Replace and reposition bolts on each side of the backrest pivot plate.
For Angle Adjustable Backrest with Cantilever Armrests (Fig. 5.2):
1.
To adjust, remove the two bolts (C and D) from each side of the backrest pivot plate.
2.
Reposition the backrest to the desired position.
3.
Replace and reposition bolts on each side of the backrest pivot plate.
For Manual Recline Backrest (Fig. 5.3):
1.
To adjust, remove the two bolts (I and J) from each side of the backrest pivot plate.
2.
Reposition the backrest to the desired position.
3.
Replace and reposition bolts on each side of the backrest pivot plate.
When a bigger seat depth is required, ensure that the harnesses are lengthened before the mechanical
adjustment takes place.
We strongly recommend that you contact your Sunrise Medical authorized dealer to adjust the seat depth,
because adjusting the seat depth will aff ect the center of gravity.

5.2 Pre-set back angle adjustment on seat frame

For Standard Angle Adjustable Backrest (Fig. 5.1)
1.
Remove the front securing bolt (A) on the side of the backrest hinge plate.
2.
Loosen the lower rear bolt (B).
3.
Set at desired angle. There are fi ve holes (in 4° increments) to choose from.
4.
Attach again the front bolt and tighten both bolts securely.
For Angle Adjustable Backrest with Cantilever Armrests (Fig. 5.2)
1.
Remove the front securing bolt (F) on the inside of the backrest bracket.
2.
Loosen the upper bolt (E).
3.
Set at desired angle. There are fi ve holes (in 4° increments) to choose from.
4.
Attach again the lower bolt and tighten both bolts securely.
5.3 Manual recline operation (Fig. 5.3)
For operation with wrench:
1.
Using a 16mm socket wrench at point (G), rotate clockwise to recline, and counter-clockwise to
return the back to an upright position.
2.
Backrest is ready for use.
For operation with recline knob:
1.
Using the manual recline knob (H) on the side of the chair, rotate clockwise to recline, and
counter-clockwise to return the back to an upright position.
