Procedure
Follow the steps below to connect a cable for an external antenna:
1. Remove the protective cap from the affected N-Connect on the device.
Note
Keep the protective caps
Keep the protective caps removed for later use.
2. You can connect an external antenna directly to the device or connect it with a flexible
connecting cable.
Place the antenna plug or the flexible connecting cable on the antenna connection
and tighten the sleeve nut of the plug on the antenna connection (wrench SW19,
torque 1.7 Nm).
3. An antenna must always be connected to the antenna connections R1 A1 ⑦ and R2
A1⑧. You can find additional information on configuration of antennas in the WBM /
CLI.
4. Screw a terminating resistor onto the unused antenna connections.
Note
Terminating resistor
Each WLAN interface has four antenna connectors. Any connections that are not in use
must be fitted with a terminating resistor, see Accessories (Page 28).
An antenna must always be connected to the antenna connectors R1 A1 and R2 A1 as
soon as the WLAN interface is switched on. Otherwise, there may be transmission
disruptions.
Note
Access points with two WLAN interfaces
If both interfaces are operated in the same frequency range for access points with two
WLAN interfaces:
• The distance between the antennas connected to R1A1, R1A2, R1A3, R1A4 and those
connected to R2A1, R2A2, R2A3, R2A4 must be at least 1 m.
• There may be wireless interference on one or both WLAN interfaces if the transmit
power is higher than 15 dB.
Note
Cabinet installation
When installing the device in a cabinet, use detached antennas. Use a suitable flexible
connecting cable for a connection between the device and the detached antenna. You
will find detailed information in the section Flexible connecting cables (Page 26).
