Troubleshooting

Use the following chart to determine the cause of the problem before you take your Speedlight to a
Nikon service center for repair.
Problem
The ready-light does
not light up.
The ready-light blinks
for approx. 1.5 sec.
after firing.
The ready-light takes a
long time to light up.
The shutter cannot be
released, although the
ready-light comes on.

Possible cause
The battery is replaced while the power switch is set
to ON or the STBY position.
The battery is not correctly installed.
Battery power is weak.
The standby function is activated and operating.
The battery terminals or SB-30's battery contacts
are dirty.
The shooting distance is out of the available flash
shooting distance range.
Battery power is weak.
The battery generates heat due to continuous firing.
The Mode selector dial is set to Non-TTL auto or Manual,
and camera's exposure mode is set to Programmed
Auto or Shutter-Priority Auto.
