O c c a s i on a l l y D X stati o n s w i l l u t i l ize an o p e r at i o n a l
proced u re k n o w n a s s p l it fre q u e n c y operatio n . W h e n
the D X station i s i n t h i s mode he w i l l be t r a n s m itt i n g
o n o n e freq u e n c y a n d rec e i v i n g o n a n ot h e r . T h i s i s
d o n e i n o r d e r f o r t h e D X stati o n to be a b l e to recog­
n ize t h e calls of sta t i o n s during p i l e - u p s .
O l d e r transceive rs req u i red the use of a n exte r n a l V F O
to a l l ow t h i s s p l i t fre q u e n c y operation . The TS -440S ,
thru the use of m i c roprocessor contro l s , effectively pro­
vides two sepa rate VFOs i n the same package . Several
d iffe rent controls a n d s w it c h e s h a v e been provided t o
i n c re a s e t h e ope rators c o n ve n i e nc e w h e n faced w it h
t h i s type o f operat i o n . T h e u s e of these controls is d is ­
c u ssed b e l o w .

c a u s e t h e TS -4405 to receive on V F O A a n d trans­
m it o n VFO B. T h e mode of rec e p t i o n a n d trans­
m i s s i o n w i l l follow t h e mode c o n t a i n e d i n the
a pp ro p r i ate VFO m e m o r y . It is possible to work
c ross b a n d , c ross m o d e if d e s i red .
To avoid confusion d u r i n g contest, or p i l e - u p oper­
ations we reco m m e n d u s i n g VFO A for receive a n d
V F O B for t ra n s m i t .
