Engine Oil and Filter - Change

Typical example of an oil pan for engines equipped with a balancer
1. Place container below oil drain plug (1) and oil
drain plug (5).
2. Remove oil drain plug (1) and oil drain plug (5)
from engine oil pan (3) and allow the oil to drain
into the container for storage or disposal.
3. Remove drain plug seal (2) and drain plug seal (4).
Discard the seals.
4. Clean the oil drain plugs and install new drain plug
seal (2) and new drain plug seal (4). Install oil
drain plug (1) and oil drain plug (5) into oil pan (3).
5. Tighten oil drain plug (1) and oil drain plug (5) to a
torque of 24 N·m (212 lb in). Remove container
below oil drain plug (1) and discard waste oil in
accordance with local regulations.
Replace the Oil Filter
NOTICE
Perkins oil filters are built to Perkins specifications.
Use of an oil filter not recommended by Perkins could
result in severe engine damage to the engine bear-
ings, crankshaft, etc., as a result of the larger waste
particles from unfiltered oil entering the engine lubri-
cating system. Only use oil filters recommended by
Perkins.
1. Remove the oil filter with a suitable tool.
2. Clean the sealing mating surface on the engine
(1).

3. Apply clean engine oil to the new oil filter seal (2).
NOTICE
Do not fill the oil filters with oil before installing them.
This oil would not be filtered and could be contami-
nated. Contaminated oil can cause accelerated wear
to engine components or engine damage.
