    Seats and Seat Controls This section tells you about the seats-how to and down. Front Seat (Except Easy Entry) Front Seat (Easy Entry Only) adjust them, and fold them up Move the lever under the front of the seat to your left to unlock it.

Your seatback will move back and forth freely, unless you come to a sudden stop. Then it will lock in place. There’s one time the seatback may not fold without some help from you.

    Driver Position This section describes the driver’s restraint system. Lap-Shoulder Belt The driver has a lap-shoulder belt. Here’s how to wear it properly. 1. Close and lock the door. 2. Adjust the seat (to see how, see “Seats” in the Index) so you can sit up straight.

    Child Restraints Be sure to follow the instructions for the restraint. instructions on the restraint itself or in a booklet, or both. These restraints use the belt system in your vehicle, but the child also has to be secured within the restraint to help reduce the chance instructions that come with the infant or child restraint will show you how to .do that.

Move the child toward the center of the vehicle, but be sure that the shoulder belt still is on the child’s shoulder, so that in a crash the child’s upper body would have the restraint that belts provide.

Each plug has a code on it that tells your dealer or a qualified locksmith how to make extra keys. Keep the plugs in a safe place. If you lose your keys, you’ll be able to have new ones made easily using these plugs.

    Ignition Switch Use your ignition key to start your vehicle. The ignition key lets you turn the ignition switch to five different positions. ACC (Accessory): ACC lets you use things like the radio and the windshield wipers when the engine is off. To get into ACC, push in the key and turn it toward you.

    Running Your Engine While You’re Parked (Automatic Transmission) It’s better not to park with the engine running. But if you ever have to, here are some things to know. CAUTION: Idling the engine with the air system control off could allow dmgerous exhaust into your vehicle (see the earlier Caution under “Engine Exhaust”).

    Four- Wheel Drive If your vehicle has four-wheel drive, you can send your engine’s driving power to all four wheels for extra traction. To shift out of two-wheel drive and into four-wheel drive, move the transfer case shift lever to 4HI or 4LO. You should use 2HI for most normal driving conditions, however.
  • Page 74 The front axle portion of the diagram on the indicator will light up when you shift into four-wheel drive. A slight delay between shifting and the pattern’s lighting is normal. If the pattern does not light up, or if the front axle does not go out after you shift out of four-wheel drive, have your dealer check your system.

    Electronic Transfer Case If your four-wheel drive vehicle has the electronic transfer case, the transfer case switches are on the right side of your instrument panel above the radio controls. Use these switches to shift into and out of four-wheel drive. You can choose among three driving settings: 1.

    Windows The driver’s window switch has an “express” feature that allows it to lower faster than the passenger’s window. The driver’s door also has a switch for the passenger windows. Push the down arrow on the switch to lower the window. Push the up arrow on the switch to raise the window.

    Horn Tilt Wheel (Option) You can also raise it to the highest level to give your legs more room when you enter and exit the vehicle. To tilt the wheel, hold the steering wheel and pull the lever. Move the steering wheel to a comfortable level, then release the lever to lock the wheel in place.

    Turn SignaUMultifunction Lever The lever on the left side of the steering column includes your: Turn Signal and Lane Change Indicator Headlight High-Low Beam Windshield Wipers Windshield Washer Cruise Control (Option) Turn Signal and Lane Change Indicator To signal a turn, move the lever all the way up or down. When the turn is finished, the lever will return automatically.
  • Page 81 To signal a lane change, just raise or lower the lever until the green arrow starts to flash. Hold there until you complete your lane change. The lever will return by itself when you release it. As you signal a turn or a lane change, if the arrows don’t flash but just stay on, a signal bulb may be burned out and other drivers won’t see your turn signal.

    Headlight High-Low Beam Windshield Wipers beam to high or high to low, pull the turn signal lever all the way toward you. Then release it. When the high beams are on, this blue indicator light on the instrument panel also will be on.

    For a single wiping cycle, turn the band to MIST. Hold it there until the wipers start, then let go. The wipers will stop after one cycle. If you want more cycles, hold the band on You can set the wiper speed for a long or short delay between wipes. This can be very useful in light rain or snow.
  • Page 84 Driving without washer fluid can be dangerous. A bad mud splash can block your vision. You could hit another vehicle or go off the road. Check your washer fluid level often. NOTICE: When using concentrated washer fluid, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for adding water. Don’t mix water with ready-to-use washer fluid.

    Cruise Control (Option) With Cruise Control, you can maintain a speed of about 25 mph (40 k d h ) or more without keeping your foot on the accelerator. This can really help on long trips. Cruise Control does not work at speeds below about 25 mph (40 km/h).
  • Page 86 Get up to the speed you want. Push in the set button at the end of the lever and release it. Take your foot off the accelerator pedal.
  • Page 87 To Resume a Set Speed Suppose you set your Cruise Control at a desired speed and then you apply the brake. This, of course, shuts off the Cruise Control. But you don’t need to reset it. Once you’re going about 25 mph (40 k d h ) or more, you can move the Cruise Control switch from ON to WA (Resume/Accelerate) for about half a second.
  • Page 88 To lncrease Speed While Using Cruise Control There are two ways to go to a higher speed. Here’s the first: Use the accelerator pedal to get to the higher speed. Push the button at the end of the lever, then release the button and the accelerator pedal. You’ll now cruise at the higher speed.

  • Page 92 A circuit breaker protects your headlights. If you have an electrical overload, your headlights will flicker on and off. Have your headlight wiring checked right away if this happens. Fog Lamps (Opfion) Press the left side of the switch to turn the fog lamps on, and the right side of the switch to turn them off.
  • Page 93 Daytime Running Lights (DRL) Indicator Light (Canada Only) If your vehicle was first sold, when new, in Canada, you will have this light on the instrument panel. It goes on whenever the Daytime Running Lights are on, the ignition is on, the headlamp switch is off, and the parking brake is released.

    Of course, you may still turn on the headlights any time you need to. To idle your vehicle with the DRL off, set the parking brake. The DRL will stay off until you release the parking brake. Headlights-On Reminder A reminder tone will sound when your headlights or parking lights are turned on and your ignition is in OFF, LOCK or ACC.
