In this manual, we’ve used the familiar words and colors that Cadillac has used for years. You’ll also see warning labels on your vehicle. They use the same colors, and the words CAUTION or NOTICE.

  • Page 20 Power Seat The control is located on both front door arm rests. The front TILT switch makes the front portion of the seat cushion move up and down. The rear TILT switch makes the rear portion of the seat cushion move up and down.
  • Page 21 Memory Seat If your Fleetwood has this option, the control looks like this: Here’s how to make it work: You don’t need to start your vehicle yet, just make sure it (Park). Adjust the driver’s seat the way you want it. Push the Set button.

You should hear a clicking sound as the restraint moves forward. Articulating: Head restraint can be adjusted by holding both sides and gently rotating in a fore/aft direction.

  • Page 27 A few crashes are mild, and some crashes can be so serious that even buckled up a person wouldn’t survive. But most crashes are in between. In many of them, people who buckle up can survive and sometimes walk away. Without belts they could have been badly hurt or killed. After more than 25 years of safety belts in vehicles, the facts are clear.
  • Page 28 Safety Belts Work When you ride in or on anything, you go as fast as it goes. When the bike hits the block, it stops. But the child keeps going!
  • Page 29 Take the simplest vehicle. Suppose it's just a seat on wheels. Put someone on...
  • Page 32 HERE ARE QUESTIONS ASKABOUT SAFETYBELTS -AND THE ANSWERS Won’t I be trapped in the vehicle after an accident ifI’m wearing a safety belt? You could be -- whether you’re wearing a safety belt or not. But you can easily unbuckle a safety belt, even if you’re upside down. And your chance of being conscious during and after an accident, so you unbuckle and get out, is much greater if you are belted.
  • Page 33 Be aware that there are special things to know about safety belts and children. And there are different rules for smaller children and babies. If a child will be riding in your Cadillac, see the section after this one, called “Children.” Follow those rules for everyone’s protection.

  • Page 35 4. Push the latch plate into the buckle until it clicks. Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure. If the belt isn’t long enough, see “Safety Belt ExtendeYat the end of this section. Make sure the release button on the buckle is positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the safety belt quickly if you ever had to.
  • Page 36 The lap part of the belt should be worn low and snug on the hips, just touching the thighs. In a crash, this applies force to the strong pelvic bones. And you’d be less likely to slide under the lap belt. If you slid under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen.
  • Page 37 Shoulder Belt Tightness Adjustment Your Fleetwood sedan has a shoulder belt tightness adjustment feature. If the shoulder belt seems too tight, you can adjust it like this: 1. Sit well back in the seat. 2. Start pulling the shoulder belt out. 3.
  • Page 38 4. Let the belt go back all the way. You should hear a slight clicking sound. If you don’t, the adjustment feature won’t set, and you’ll have to start again. 5. Now you can add a small amount of slack. Lean forward slightly, then sit back.

  • Page 43 R E S T U N T SYSTEM (AIR BAGS) This section explains the Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR), or “air bag,” system. Your Cadillac has an air bag for both the driver and the right-front passenger. Here’s the most important thing to know:...
  • Page 45 Air Bag Readiness Light There is an air bag readiness light on the instrument panel. The system checks for electrical malfunctions, and the light tells you if there is a problem. You will see this light flash for a few seconds when you turn your ignition to “Run”...
  • Page 46 l"he Air Bag System Works...
  • Page 47 Where is the air bag? The driver’s air bag is in the middle of the steering wheel. The right-front passenger’s air bag is located in the instrument panel on the passenger’s side. When is an air bag expected to inflate? The air bag is designed to inflate in moderate to severe frontal or near-frontal crashes.
  • Page 48 How does an air bag restrain? In moderate to severe frontal or near-frontal collisions, even belted occupants can contact the steering wheel or the instrument panel. The air bag supplements the protection provided by safety belts. Air bags distribute the force of the impact more evenly over the occupant’s upper body, stopping the occupant more gradually.
  • Page 49 Your vehicle is equipped with a diagnostic module, which records information about the air bag system if the air bag deploys in a crash. The module records information about the readiness of the system, which sensors activated the deployment, and whether the driver’s safety belt was in use.
  • Page 50 Servicing Your Cadillac with the Air Bag System Please tell or remind anyone who works on your Cadillac that it has the air bag system. There are parts of the air bag system in several places around your vehicle. You don’t want the system to inflate while someone is working on your vehicle.
  • Page 51 SAFETYBELT USE DUNNG PREGNANCY Safety belts work for everyone, including pregnant women. Like all occupants, they are more likely to be seriously injured if they don't wear safety belts. A pregnant woman Should wear a lap-shoulder belt, and the lap portion should be wo.rn as low as possible.
  • Page 52 RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER POSITION The right front passenger’s safety belt works the same way as the driver’s safety belt. See “Driver Position,” earlier in this part. When the lap portion of the belt is pulled out all the way, it will lock. If it does, let it go back all the way and start -again.

  • Page 59 under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen. This could cause serious or even fatal injuries. The shoulder belt should go over the shoulder and across the chest. These parts of the body are best able to take belt restraining forces. The safety belt locks if there's a sudden stop or a crash, or if you pull it very quickly out of the retractor.

  • Page 188 Traction Control System This feature is deleted on Coach Builder limousines and funeral coach packages. Your vehicle has a traction control system that limits wheel spin. This is especially useful in slippery road conditions. The system operates only if it senses that the rear wheels are spinning or beginning to lose traction. When this happens, the system works the rear brakes and reduces engine power (by closing the throttle) to limit wheel spin.
