Troubleshooting - Foreword

The following troubleshooting information will help you in the unlikely event a problem occurs with your equipment.
Reading the troubleshooting chart is easy. The left-hand column will be the problem you may be having with your
equipment. The center column explains the possible cause or causes of the problem. The right-hand columns gives
you corrective actions you can take to solve the problem. If you feel unsure how to handle the problem with your
equipment do not hesitate to contact your NEW HOLLAND dealer for assistance.

Engine - Troubleshooting

Problem
The start motor does not
rotate with the key switch
in the (START) position.
The start motor rotates
but the engine does not
start
Engine speed is irregular Air in fuel system
Engine stops suddenly
during operation
Engine speed is more
than maximum rated high
idle speed
Engine stops at low speed Faulty injection pump
Low engine power
The color of exhaust
smoke is white

Possible Cause
Low battery charge
Loose battery or starter cable terminals
Key switch faulty
Safety start switch not completing circuit
PTO safety switch is not in "OFF" position Place PTO switch in "OFF" position
Starter motor faulty
Low battery charge
Air in fuel system
Fuel filter clogged
Fuel shutoff valve on fuel filter in closed
position
Fuel shutoff solenoid on fuel injection pump
stuck in off position
Fuel filter clogged
Injection nozzle clogged
Fuel leakage
Irregular fuel injection
Fuel shortage
Faulty fuel injector
Faulty fuel injection pump
Internal parts of engine seized due to lack
of lubrication
Fault with the engine speed control unit.
Engine valve gap is not correct

Incorrect valve gap adjustment

Charge or replace
Tighten the terminal

Open the valve

Bleed the fuel system
Clean or replace the filter
Repair or replace nozzle

Repair or replace injection pump as needed
Adjust the gap

Repair valve and seats as needed
Adjust valve gap to correct amount
Check and adjust fuel injection timing as
needed
Check fuel system for restriction
Clean or replace air filter
Allow engine to obtain higher operating
