Debian offers a choice between plain LPD, LPRng and CUPS. There are
several printer configuration tools in this distribution, e.g. the apsfilter
(version 5 or later), which adds support for LPRng and Ghostscript's
uniprint driver scheme. Red Hat's printtool is also supported, for those
who prefer GUI administration tools.
For LPRng, LPD and CUPS use the Printtool.
1. From the Gnome desktop, select Main Menu (on the panel) => Debian
menus => Apps => System => Printtool.
2. On the KDE desktop, select the Main Menu (on the Panel) => System =>
Debian => Printtool.
3. Open a terminal window and type the command

Five types of print queues can be configured with printconf in the Debian
distribution:
• Local Printer
• Unix Printer (lpd Spool
• Windows Printer (SMB)
• Novell Printer (NCP Queue)

• Printer name — Enter a unique name for the printer. (The name
cannot contain spaces and must begin with a letter. Valid characters
are a - z, A - Z, 0 - 9, -, and _.
• Remote Host — The hostname or IP address of the remote machine
to which the printer is attached.
• Remote Queue and input filter — The remote printer queue and
input filter.
3. Click Next
