WHEELPILOT WP10 and WP30 UP-GRADE Kit
History
It has come to our attention that the Wheelpilot 10 and 30 have had a number
of problems concerning the internal main drive belt. These problems have stemmed from
inconsistent supply of belts with different characteristics from the manufacturer. The most recent belt
which gives the best performance also increases the drag when the pilot is in Stand-By. This has been
noticed by a number of our customers with varying degrees of drag/tension with a few
complaining that the wheel has been difficult to turn. We have also found that a very small number of the
belts fray and tear causing possible jamming of the wheelpilot and have therefore improved our belt pre-
production testing to eliminate this problem.
1) UP-GRADE ALL DISTRIBUTION STOCK (KIT PART No WPPK 35)
To alleviate the problem we are supplying an upgrade kit that should be fitted to all units in
Stock. This kit contains a proven belt and a modified clutch plate that allows the belt to run smoother
around the clutch pulleys.
The kit also contains a spare set of splines with associated parts, which should replace the production
Set if no Loctite is visible as explained in detail in the instructions.
We will offer 30 minutes labour per pilot for the modification at an hourly rate of £25 or alternatively the
pilots can be returned to Simrad Margate where the modifications will be carried out.

2) SERVICE RETURNED UNITS
All Wheelpilots returned for service should have the belt and clutch plate changed.
If the units are not in warranty then the parts and labour should be charged for as normal.
The below 'special service offer' can be offered to all returned units with any other repairs carried
out at normal pricing.
3) SPECIAL UP-GRADE SERVICE OFFER TO PRODUCT OUT OF WARRANTY
We want to offer a Win – Win situation to Simrad and our customers and feel that
we should offer a very special service deal that will bring in the pilots and allow us
to up-grade the pilots that might cause problems in the future.
We believe that it would be beneficial for all WP10/30's to be up-graded with a new
Clutch and belt and suggest that we offer a special Up-grade service to our customers.
The offer would be seen as a standard service of the pilot combined with the Up-grade.
The offer could be sold as a 'Special Off-Season Wheelpilot Service Up-grade'; for example
Special Off-Season Wheelpilot Service on WP10 and WP30
'Simrad offer a special low cost off-season service on their Wheelpilots.
While the boat is laid up why not take the opportunity to have your pilot (WP10/30)
given the once-over by a professional service technician. The service includes
a new drive belt and associated parts and also offers an Up-grade to the clutch
mechanism for smoother running at no extra cost. Should the pilot require further parts
these will only be fitted after agreement with the owner. So why not take advantage
of this special offer and improve the performance of your pilot for next season.

The transfer price to distribution of the Special Wheelpilot service kit will be £10.
Please note that this is below the cost price to Simrad Margate and should
be passed on to the customer without making a profit. It is included in the
above Special Service price that we recommend that Distribution charge.
