SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS
Installing and servicing air-conditioning equipment can be
hazardous due to system pressure and electrical compo-
nents. Only trained personnel should install or service air-
conditioning equipment.
When working on air-conditioning equipment, observe pre-
cautions in the literature and on tags and labels attached
to unit. All electrical wiring should be done by a licensed
electrician.
Follow all safety codes. Wear safety glasses and work gloves.
Have a fire extinguisher available.
Before performing service or maintenance operations on
system, turn off all main power switches. There may be
more than one disconnect. Turn off accessory heater power
switch if applicable. Electrical shock can cause per-
sonal injury. TAG DISCONNECT SWITCH(ES) WITH
A SUITABLE WARNING LABEL.
GENERAL
These instructions cover the installation of field-installed
accessory electric heater packages for Electric Cooling Units
and Heat Pumps. Accessory electric heater packages are avail-
able from 5 to 20 kW. Consult Table 1 and Fig. 1 for pack-
age contents.

INSTALLATION

1. Refer to unit Installation Instructions for complete unit
installation details. The minimum air quantity for safe elec-
tric heater operation is shown in Tables 2A and 2B.
IMPORTANT: When using accessory electric heat
and flexible ductwork, it is recommended that a sheet
metal sleeve be installed inside the first 12 in.
(304.8 mm) of the duct.
2. Remove blower/control box access panel. See Fig. 2.
3. Remove the electric heater and control box assembly from
packaging. Route the accessory electric heater low-
voltage control wires through the back of the unit control
box. See Fig. 3. Using wire tie provided in kit, route and
secure the accessory electric heater low-voltage wires with
the unit low-voltage wires.
4. Install electric heater control box by engaging the back
of the heater control box with the slots in the back of the
unit control box. Secure with the screws provided. See
Fig. 4.
5. Install heater assembly to blower-side plate. Ensure that
the tabs on the heater assembly engage the slots closest
to the indoor coil on the blower housing. See Fig. 5.
Secure heater assembly with screws provided in kit. See
Fig. 6.
6. Route and secure high-voltage wires as shown in Fig. 7.
7. Connect low-voltage control circuit wiring in the low-
voltage connection box on the unit by making proper elec-
trical connections. See Fig. 8-11.
