OM-2065 / Operation and Maintenance Manual
90SB51 / Spec. 7015-3 / Frequency Converter
Section 1. Maintenance
1. General
The solid state converter is designed to be as maintenance free as possible. Therefore there are few
inspections and maintenance requirements. Field maintenance of the converter should be done only by
qualified service personnel, and should be limited to cleaning and inspection of the unit and its
components, and the replacement of lamps and fuses. All servicing and repair work including testing
and calibration, should be referred to the Service Department of Hobart Brothers Company, or to an
authorized service shop of Hobart Brothers ground power equipment, or trained, qualified electronic
technician.
2. Field Maintenance Procedure
The converter should be cleaned and inspected once every six months, or more frequently if operating
conditions warrant it. Proceed as follows with cleaning and inspection.
WARNING
a. Wearing eye protection and being careful to avoid blowing debris where it could cause harm or injury
carefully; clean dust from the interior of the converter by blowing low pressure compressed air into
the interior first from the bottom of the unit and then from the top.
b. Clean heat sinks and printed circuit boards using compressed air or a soft brush.
c. Inspect input and output terminal blocks for evidence of overheating due to loose electrical
connections.
d. Inspect electrical and mechanical connections for tightness. Inspect closely all compression-type
connectors.
Inspect printed circuit boards in card cage for evidence of overheating , such as burned resistors or
capacitors. (Note that the printed circuit boards are coated with a fungus and moisture-proof coating
which turns brown on hot components. This is a normal occurrence, especially on resistors
exceeding 1 watt in rating) .
f. Check and inspect all front panel components including indicator lamps.
g. Inspect the long hinge at the bottom front and rear of the unit. If these hinges stick and are difficult to
operate, spray hinges with a good silicone spray lubricant.
h. Inspect all wiring, leads, and cables. Inspect for cuts, abrasions, and signs of deterioration and
overheating. Inspect leads for broken strands at terminals.
Nov 01/90
Make certain that the source of input power is turned off and locked off before
proceeding with any inspection or maintenance operation which could bring
personnel in contact with high voltage. Check to be sure all capacitors are
discharged using a suitable voltmeter.
