Section 2. Preparation For Use

1. Receipt and Inspection of Equipment

The solid state converter unit has been thoroughly tested and inspected at the factory, and prepared for
shipment in accordance with standard industrial practices for safe shipment. Upon receiving this
equipment, inspect it as follows.
Visually inspect the shipping crate for damage. If any damage is detected, request that the carrier
agent inspect the shipment and note the damage on the delivery receipt. This is for your protection.
If there is no obvious damage to the shipping crate, unpack the unit as follows:

2. Unpacking the Unit

Remove crate, leaving unit on pallet for lifting it into place for mounting. Take care to avoid damage to
the equipment if bars, hammers, etc. are used in uncrating. Remove all unused hardware from the unit.
Visually inspect the unit for evidence of external damage such as damaged sheet metal, scratches,
broken meter faces, or damaged switches. Check also for loose connections and components. If the
equipment has been damaged in transit, file a claim for damage at once. If you require assistance with
a damage claim, furnish Hobart Brothers Company with full information about the claim.
NOTE: Save the shipping container until the unit has been put into service and determined to be
operating correctly.
CAUTION

3. Mounting the Unit

(a) Lift the unit into place for mounting, while observing the CAUTION above, and refer to LIFTING
INSTRUCTION LABELS on the unit.
(b) Attach the unit securely to bridge brackets, allowing at least 6 inches between bridge floor and top of
converter for ventilation.
(c) Remove the pallet from the unit.

4. Preparation for Use

A Hobart converter unit requires no additional preparation in order to supply power to an aircraft. It
needs only to have its input connected to an appropriate source of power, and then have its output
cable connected to the aircraft. Proceed as follows for putting the converter unit into service.
Nov 01/90
When the unit is lifted into place under a bridge for mounting it should be
supported by two 2" x 6" wooden planks extending the full length of the unit to
prevent damage to the underside of the unit.
Take necessary measures to ensure that no water can run along the underside
of the bridge floor and drip into the converter.
Locate the converter under the bridge so that all top ventilation openings are as
far from the edges of the bridge as possible.
