Sample prep plates are made of polypropylene and contain
42 wells each. The BioRobot M48 worktable holds up to
8 sample prep plates.
Six samples are processed per sample prep plate. Thus,
depending on the protocol, the BioRobot M48 processes up
to 48 samples in a single protocol run.
3.2.2

Pipettor head

The pipettor head is mounted above the worktable and
moves in the X, Y, and Z directions (i.e., left to right, front to
back, and up and down) in order to reach different locations
on the worktable.
The pipettor head contains 6 high-precision syringe pumps
which are connected to tip adapters that can be attached to
disposable tips. The syringe pumps operate simultaneously to
allow aspiration or dispensing of small volumes of liquid
(25–1000 µl) via the disposable tips.
