TROUBLESHOOTING
Engine fails to start
1.
No fuel in tank.
2.
Fuel line is flattened or
kinked.
3.
Fuel connector is not
connected properly.
4.
Fuel is contaminated or
stale.
5.
Battery is discharged.
(Electric starter type)
6.
Battery terminal is loose.
(Electric starter type)
7.
Spark plug cap is loose
or disconnected.
8.
Fuse is blown out.
(Electric starter type)
9.
Engine is started in
wrong procedure.
Engine speed fluctuates or engine stalls

Fuel level is low.

Fill tank with fuel.
Check for excessively
bent or pinched fuel
line.
Connect properly.
Replace with new fuel.
Charge battery.
Tighten battery
terminal.
Install and tighten
spark plug cap
securely.
Replace with new
fuse.
Start in correct
procedure.
Add fuel.

Fuel line is flattened or

Fuel filter is clogged.

Spark plug is fouled.

Spark plug heat range is
incorrect.
Spark plug gap is

bent or pinched fuel
line.
Replace fuel filter.
Remove spark plug
and dry and clean it.
Replace with spark
plug of proper heat
range.
Adjust to proper gap.
Check for excessively
bent or pinched fuel
line.
Replace fuel filter.
Check engine oil and
add to specified level.
Consult with an
authorized Honda
outboard motor dealer.
Distribute the
passengers equally.
Install the outboard
motor in the proper
position.
