ADJUST YOUR TRACTOR
ADJUST THE BLADE DRIVE BELT
(Figure 18)
If the mower blades will not turn at their full speed, or if
the blade drive belt slips while mowing, you need to
adjust the blade drive belt tension. To adjust the blade
drive belt tension, do the following:
1. Place the mower height adjustment in the lowest
cutting position.
2. Loosen the idler pulley locknut (Figure 18).
3. Slide the idler pulley toward the center of the deck
to tighten the belt. Slide to front of deck to loosen.
NOTE
You should have to move idler pulley only slightly.

4. Retighten the idler pulley locknut.
5. To check the adjustment, start the engine, and
place the throttle control and choke lever in the FAST
(MOW) position. Move the mower clutch lever down to
the ENGAGE position and allow sufficient time for the
blades to reach full speed. Then move the mower
clutch lever to the DISENGAGE (UP) position. The
blades should stop turning within a few seconds and
remain stopped. If the blades do not stop, or tend to
creep, the adjustment is too tight.
6.
If
the blade drive belt is too tight, repeat steps 1
through 5 until you get the proper tension on the drive
belt.
