Getting Started Using FirstGear for the Model RT328 ISDN Router
Choose one of the following two options for determining the IP addresses for your local network
and router:
Use the addresses specified by your ISP or network manager.
You must have at least two specific IP addresses, one for your PC and one for your
Model RT328 router.
Use private addresses and the NAT feature of your Model RT328 router.
Use private addresses if you are accessing an Internet account for which only a single dynamic
or static IP address is assigned and you have no other Internet Assigned Numbers Authority
(IANA) registered addresses for your LAN and router.
Choose your LAN and router addresses from the special group of private Internet addresses
listed in Chapter 1 of Reference Guide for the Model RT328 ISDN Router. NETGEAR
recommends that you use these addresses:
— Router address:
— PC or workstation addresses: 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.254
— Netmask for all:

Assigning an IP Address

If your Model RT328 router is not configured, it does not have an IP address. You must assign one
now, using the address determined in the previous section. If an IP address is shown, verify that it
is the address you want the router to use.
To assign or change the IP address, follow these steps:
Type the IP address in the New IP address field using dotted-decimal notation.
1.
Type the netmask in the Netmask field using dotted-decimal notation.
2.
Note: Make sure that the netmask and network portion of the IP address are the same for
both the PC and your Model RT328 router.
If you are changing a currently assigned IP address or netmask, a password is required. The
factory default is 1234. If your router currently has a password, enter the currently saved
password in the Password field before proceeding to the next step.
Press [Apply].
3.
Press [Return].
4.
FirstGear accesses the router and reads the current configuration.
