Selecting a Host

ASCII Hosts
If a logon screen other than the Host Selection Screen (C3) appears, go to Step 5.
If screen C3 appears, type the number that corresponds to the host to which you
want to connect, then press the ENTER key.

If you enter an invalid number INCORRECT RESPONSE is displayed on the message line.
Enter a valid number. You can try again for an unlimited number of times.
If
you choose an SNA host but the host path is unavailable,T2 HOST UNAVAILABLE,
RETRY LATER is displayed on the message line. You can try again at any time.
If you choose an SNA host but the 3708 is unavailable,T3 IBM 37G8 RESTRICTING
THIS CONNECTION, RETRY LATER is displayed on the message line. You can try again
at any time.
If you choose an ASCII host, but the host is either not connected to the 3708 or is in
session with another user, the host selection screen is displayed again with HOST
UNAVAILABLE, RETRY LATER on the message line. You can try again at any time.
If you choose an ASCII host, and the host is available, a screen is displayed with the
message ASCII HOST CONNECTED. Refer to "ASCII Pass-through Mode" on page 3-2
for information on how to operate in ASCII pass-through mode.

Technical Note:
The availability of the SNA host is determined by the receipt of an ACTIVATE LU (ACTLU)
command. If this has not yet been received for the LU associated with your port, the
HOST UNAVAILABLE, RETRY
LATER
error message is displayed.

Technical Note:
The 3708 is available as long as a buffer shortage does not exist. Any buffer shortage should be
temporary in nature. If the problem persists, the configuration of the 3708 may need to be modified.
