Logging on
The following discussion guides you through the steps required for logging on.
Note: Refer to "Error Messages" on page 1-9 for all logon error messages.
Step 1.
Establishing the Connection
If the terminal is directly connected, turn on the power to the terminal. If the
terminal is remotely connected, turn on the power to the terminal and modem, then
establish the connection through the modem.
After establishing the connection, you should see the first configured logon screen.
If you do not see a logon screen, press the carriage return key on your terminal (this
could be the ENTER, SEND, or NEW LINE key; see your system administrator if
you do not know which key to press). If no logon screens appear or the Logon
Indication Screen (C4) appears,C4 go to step 5.
Step 2.
Entering the Port Password
If a logon screen other than the port password screen (CI)C5 appears, go to step
3.
If screen CI appears, type your password, then press the ENTER key.

To disconnect from the 3708, type

If you enter the password incorrectly,
INCORRECT PASSWORD
is displayed in the
message line, and you can try again several times. C6 If you do not enter the correct
password before reaching the configured number of tries, the device is disconnected
automatically.

Configuration Note: If the port has been set to run without the 3708 logon screens (LOGON SCREENS
EXCLUDED
=
Y), no logon screens appear. Appendix A, "Flowchart of 3708 Logon Process" is a diagram
showing the logon process, including how various configuration options affect the flow through the 3708 logon
screens.

Configuration Note: For the 3708, if port option PASSWORD is set to blanks or the port password screen is
suppressed during configuration, the port password screen is not displayed at all.

Configuration Note: For the 3708, the number of times you can enter a password before being disconnected is
determined by port option RETRY LIMIT.
