Internal frame check

__ 1. Check for non-IBM alterations or attachments. If present, complete form R-009, Non-IBM
Alterations/Attachments Survey.
__ 2. Inspect for smoke or water damage and presence of rust or other contamination.
__ 3. Check that all covers are installed and that no screws or washers are missing.
__ 4. Check for sharp edges.
Machine safety changes
__ 1. Check for any Safety Engineering Changes released for this machine type.
__ 2. Check the machine to ensure that all safety changes have been installed.
__ 3. Order any missing safety changes or labels that must be replaced and install them as soon as
possible.
__ 4. Update machine history (if available) to show all safety changes installed.

System power on

Connecting frame power

__ 1. Have the customer shut off the circuit breakers for the system.
__ 2. Connect all system power cords to the source power.
__ 3. Have the customer reset the circuit breakers for the system.
Note that when power is supplied to the system, lights for the components (CPC drawer, I/O cages, and
SEs) will turn on and their fans will start.

Power on

Locate the Primary Support Element.
__ 1. Put the Support Element in the service position.
__ 2. Lift up the Support Element display on the keyboard-mouse-monitor (KMM) drawer.
__ 3. Ensure that the Support Element is powering on.
Note: If the Support Element is not powering on, see the Service Guide, GC28-6966.
Ensure that the Primary Support Element Welcome screen is displayed before continuing.
Note: If the Alternate Welcome screen is displayed, perform these steps on the other Support Element.
Logon to the Support Element
__ 1. Select the "link" to logon from the Welcome to the Support Element Console.
__ 2. Type Service in the User identification field.
__ 3. Use the tab key to move the cursor to the next field.
__ 4. Type SERVMODE in the Password field.
__ 5. Click Logon.
__ 6. Continue to the Tree Style procedure to power on the system.

__ 1. Select System Management from the left Navigation area.
__ 2. Select the System to power on in the Work area.
__ 3. Click the "+" symbol from the Task Bar, to expand the task groups.
