you want to measure the altitude and there is vertical movement included in your
activity. Barometer Use is suitable for weather measurements.
A natural way to alternate between Altimeter/Barometer Use during a hike is to use the
Observer as altimeter when moving and as barometer when camping (no vertical
movement expected). This way you will have more accurate information on both altitude
and weather. Refer to Chapter 3, Altimeter-Barometer Use.
NOTE: The modes TIME, ALTI, BARO, and COMP are different from the main operational
USE between Altimeter and Barometer.
What do the LCD segments on the circumference mean?
In the Altimeter mode, one full circle equals 1,000 meters or 1,000 feet; therefore the
segments on the circumference graphically show you the altitude over a full thousand.
In the Barometer mode, one full circle equals 100 hPa or 1 inHg, and the segments
indicate the pressure over a full hundred hPa or over a full inHg.
In the main Compass mode, the segments indicate the North and South (one-lit segment
indicates North, three-lit segment indicate South). If you have set the compass to track
a certain bearing, the segments on the circumference indicate the difference between
the direction in which you want to go and your actual bearing.
