Do not place tools or metallic objects on top of the
battery.
Remove all jewelry, including watches, rings, and
other metal objects.
Use tools with insulated handles.
If electrolyte contacts the skin, wash it off
immediately with water.
If electrolyte contacts the eyes, immediately
thoroughly flush with water and seek medical
attention.
Wash down spilled electrolyte with an acid
neutralizing agent. A common practice is to use a
solution of 454g (1 lb) bicarbonate of soda to 3.8 L
(1 gal) of water. Add bicarbonate of soda solution
until the evidence of reaction (foaming) has
ceased. Flush the resulting liquid with water and
dry the area completely.
DO NOT smoke when near the battery.
DO NOT cause flame or spark in the battery area.
Discharge static electricity from the body before
touching the battery by first touching a grounded
metal surface.
The battery should be regularly inspected per the
Service
Schedule. Contact an IASD for assistance if
necessary.
Proceed as follows to inspect the battery:
1. Perform "To turn the generator set OFF" in
Generator Set Enable/Disable
2. Remove front panel and intake side panel as
described in
Remove Front Access Panel

4-7. Inspect the battery posts and
cables for tightness and corrosion. Tighten and
clean as necessary.

4. (Unsealed batteries only): Completely disconnect
the battery. Check the battery fluid level and, if
necessary, fill with distilled water only. DO NOT
use tap water. Also, have an IASD or a qualified
service technician check the state of charge and
condition.
Disconnect the negative battery cable,
then the positive battery cable, when
working on unit.
5. When inspection is complete, reconnect the battery
cables and install the intake side panel.
6. Perform "To turn the generator set back ON" in
Generator Set Enable/Disable

and regulations. Contact your local solid waste collection
site or recycling facility to obtain information on local
recycling processes. For more information on battery
