Cleaning the flue pipe to the
chimney
To make it easy to clean the stove and the flue pipe, just
remove the top plate, and sweep theproduct and the pipe
through the opening.

Control of the stove

Jøtul recommends that you personally control your stove
carefully after sweeping/cleaning. Check all visible surface
areas for cracks. Also check that all joints are sealed and
that the gaskets are in the correct position. Any gaskets
showing signs of wear or deformation must be replaced.
Thoroughly clean the gasket grooves, apply ceramic glue
(available from your local Jøtul dealer), and press the gasket
well into place. The joint will dry quickly.

External maintenance

Painted products may, after some years of use, change
colour. The surface should be brushed of loose particles
before new paint is applied.

Wood length, quantity and quality

Max. length of the wood logs are 65 cm. The wood logs
should be laid parallel to the side wall of the stove.
Jøtul F 118 has with its efficiency a nominal capacity of
8 kW. According to calculations the nominal heat output
will consume 3,2 kg quality-wood per hour.
Jøtul's definition of quality-wood
Good quality-wood should be dried so that the water
content is approx. 20-25%. To achieve that, the wood should
be cut late winter, or early in the spring and dried in the
open air during the summer. In Autumn take the wood logs
inside for use during the coming winter. By quality wood,
we mean most well-known types of wood such as: Beech,
Birch and Oak.
The energy mass of 1 kg of wood varies very little. On the
other hand the net weight of the different kinds of wood
varies considerably. I. e. the weight of a certain amount of
birch will give less kWh than the same amount of beech.
The energy mass of 1 kg quality wood is about 3,8 kWh at
app. 20% humidity. 1 kg of absolute dry wood produces about
5 kWh and wood of 60 % humidity gives only about 1,5 kWh.

Service

Changing the burn plates (Fig. 3)
• Lift off the top plate
• Remove the baffle plate
• Remove the old burn plates by lifting them off the boss.
• Brush clean the side plates in the oven before installing
the new burn plates.
• Hang the burn plates on the bosses of the side plates
as shown in fig. 3-A.
• Replace the baffle- and top plate.

Changing the baffle plate

Lift off the top plate
• Remove the old baffle plate by lifting it slightly up and
then edging it out.
• To reinstall, make sure the baffle plate rests securely
close to the rear (fig. 4-C) .
Important note: If the baffle plate is positioned incorrectly,
the flue gas will go straight into the flue pipe. This will
result in too high flue gas temperatures, which may
damage the rear plate, and it will make heating
uneconomical.
Text written on Jøtul F 118 front

(fig. 7):
I built me a flame
late at night
When day is done
God will my flame
never dies out
