Headstock Gib Adjustment

DISCONNECT MILL FROM POWER!

Loosen the headstock lock levers shown in
Figure 46.

Remove the column way cover (see Figure
46) for lower column leadscrew access.
4.
For the Z-axis or headstock gib, adjust as fol-
lows:
—To increase the headstock slide tension,
loosen the lower gib screw
tighten the upper gib screw
—To decrease the headstock slide tension,
loosen the upper gib screw
tighten the lower gib screw
When properly adjusted, there should be a
slight pre-loaded fit between the column and
the headstock.

Reinstall the column way cover.

If the machine is not properly prepared for stor-
age, it may develop rust or corrosion. Use the
recommendations in this section to ensure that
the mill remains in good condition for later use.

Machine Storage

Remove any residual cutting fluid from the
table and machine body.
DISCONNECT MILL FROM POWER!
Remove any tooling from the spindle.
Thoroughly clean all unpainted, bare metal
surfaces, then apply a liberal coat of way oil.
Lubricate the machine as outlined in the lubri-
cation section.
Remove batteries from the digital depth scale
and the mini digital protractor.
Place a few moisture-absorbing desiccant
bags inside of the electrical box.
Cover and place the machine in a dry area
that is out of direct sunlight and away from
hazardous fumes, paint, solvents, or gas.
Fumes and sunlight can bleach or discolor
paint and make plastic guards cloudy.
Twice a year, depending on the ambient
humidity levels in the storage environment,
wipe down the machine with a rust prevention
compound.
