NOTE

For GDL 82 operational instructions, see 190-01810-13, GDL 82 Pilot Quick Start Guide.

Configuration procedures detailed in this section require the GDL 82 unit to be in configuration mode.

This is accomplished by connecting the GDL 82 unit to the PC, applying power to the GDL 82 and

activating the GDL 8X Install Tool on the PC. Connection to a PC requires a cable (not provided) with

USB-A and USB-B plugs.

NOTE

When the GDL 82 unit is connected to the PC (via USB) and the GDL 8X Install Tool is active,

the GDL 82 will automatically be placed in Configuration Mode. To reset the GDL 82 into

Normal Mode, power down the unit, disconnect it from the USB and reapply power to the GDL

82.

The GDL 82 PC Install Tool is used to configure system settings, perform diagnostics and upload GDL

82 software. Refer to the GDL 82 TSO Installation Manual (Garmin document 190-01810-00) for

instructions on installation and use of the GDL 8X Install Tool (Garmin P/N 006-A0248-20).

To use the GDL 8X Install Tool:

1. Power off the GDL 82 unit.

2. Connect the USB-A to USB-B cable between the PC and the USB-B receptacle installed in the

aircraft wire harness.

3. Power on the GDL 82 unit.

4. Launch the GDL 8X Install Tool; the install tool will prompt the user to select the type of unit to

configure; select the GDL 82.

5.2.1 Verify Software Version

Before configuring the GDL 82, verify that the current version of software on the GDL 82 unit matches

the software version identified in the Table 3-1.

1. In the GDL 8X Install Tool, go to the Diagnostics / Unit Information page. Reference the

Software / Version and Software / Part Number.

2. Verify that the software version listed in Table 3-1 is installed on the GDL 82 unit.

3. If necessary, reference the GDL 82 TSO Installation Manual, 190-01810-00, for instructions on

acquiring the GDL 82 software and loading software to the GDL 82.

NOTE

If the GDL 82 unit/install tool reports the same software P/N and version as indicated in Table

3-1, no further action is required to update or load software.
