4.4.1 Shielded Cable Preparation
1. At the end of the shielded cable, strip back 1.5 inch maximum length of the jacket to expose the braid.
2. Remove the exposed braid.
3. Score the jacket 1/4 inches to 5/16 inches from the end and remove the jacket to leave the braid
exposed.
4. Connected a 20 or 22 AWG wire to the exposed braid of the prepared cable using one of the below
methods. For termination techniques, refer to AC 43.13.
PREFERED METHOD
Slide a solder sleeve (1) onto the prepared cable and shrink using heat gun. The chosen size of
solder sleeve must accommodate the number of conductors present in the cable assembly. Refer to
Table 4-2 for materials; use M83519/2-2 for 2-conductor and M83519/2-3 for 3-conductor solder
sleeve. Solder sleeves with preinstalled leads are acceptable.
ALTERNATE METHOD
Solder an insulated (20-22AWG; 3 inch maximum length) wire (2) to the exposed braid of the
prepared cable. Slide a piece of shrink tube (1) onto the prepared cable and shrink using a heat gun.
The chosen size of shrink tube must accommodate the number of conductors present in the cable.
5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 as needed for the remaining shielded cables.
