4.4.3 Wiring Harness Routing
Route wire harness from the 15 pin D-sub (J821) on the GDL 82 unit to existing aircraft wire harness.
Breakout the USB dongle cable wiring and secure near the GDL 82 unit. Continue routing wiring along
existing harness to instrument panel/CB console. Terminate all wiring as shown in wiring diagram
(Figure 4-7).
If the existing coaxial cable meets the minimum requirements in Section 3.4, then no change is required
in coaxial cable routing. If new coaxial cable is required:
1. Route coaxial cable from XPDR (J823) connection on the GDL 82 unit to existing A/C wire
harness, using existing clamping stations, to the existing transponder.
2. Route coaxial cable from ANT (J824) connection on the GDL 82 unit to existing A/C wire
harness, using existing clamping stations, to the existing L-band antenna.
3. If required, route GPS coaxial cable from the GPS (J822) connection on the GDL 82 unit to the
GPS antenna in accordance with the specifications in Section 3.4.2.
NOTES
1 THE DIRECT CONNECTION TO A GPS ANTENNA IS ONLY AVAILABLE WITH THE GDL 82 WITH INTERNAL GPS. GPS SOURCE DATA CAN
ALSO BE PROVIDED VIA RS-232 FROM AN APPROVED EXISTING GARMIN NAVIGATOR. SEE SECTION 1.2 FOR APPROVED EXTERNAL GPS
SOURCES.
2 EXISTING TRANSPONDER TRANSMISSION COAXIAL CABLE NEEDS TO BE MODIFIED TO ALLOW FOR INSTALLATION OF THE GDL 82
UNIT IN SERIES BETWEEN THE EXISTING TRANSONDER AND THE L-BAND ANTENNA. SEE SECTION 3.4 FOR COAXIAL CABLE
SPECIFICATIONS.
