1.4 Power Over Ethernet (PoE)

The PoE funct ion is available for GS1100- 8HP and GS1100- 10HP .
Port s 1 t o 4 on t he GS1100- 8HP are I EEE 802.3at High Power over Et hernet ( PoE) com pliant and
can supply power of up t o 30W per Et hernet port and up t o t he t ot al PoE power budget per Swit ch.
Port s 1 t o 8 on t he GS1100- 10HP support bot h t he I EEE 802.3af Power over Et hernet and I EEE
802.3at High Power over Et hernet st andards. The port s supply power of up t o 30W per Et hernet
port and up t o t he t ot al PoE power budget per Swit ch.
The Swit ch is Power Sourcing Equipm ent ( PSE) because it provides a source of power via it s
Et hernet port s. A powered device ( PD) is a device such as an access point or an I P phone, t hat
support s PoE ( Power over Et hernet ) so t hat it can receive power from anot her device t hrough a 10/
100/ 1000 Mbps Et hernet port .
I n t he figure below, t he I P cam era and I P phone get t heir power direct ly from t he Swit ch. Aside
from m inim izing t he need for cables and wires, PoE rem oves t he hassle of t rying t o find a nearby
elect ric out let t o power up devices.
