12. INSTALLATION

12.1

Installation of Display Unit

Installation notices
• The fuse portion of the fused power cable used with this equipment is not water-
proof.
• The power cable also functions as a signal cable. Check the interconnection dia-
gram before wiring.
• Do not connect the connector with wet hands. Electrical shock or equipment failure
can result.
• This equipment has a built-in GPS antenna. Therefore, select a location where
there are no obstacles overhead or in the surrounding area.
Locate the display unit away from radar and Inmarsat beams. If the installation site
causes reception problems, use antenna unit GPA-017 (option).
Install the unit in the upright position. Reception will be degraded if installed at an
angle.
• Paints, anti-rust and electrical contact cleaners contain organic solvents that can
deteriorate the coating and plastic parts of the equipment. Keep them away from the
equipment always.
Mounting considerations
The display unit is designed to be mounted on a tabletop, using the hanger supplied.
Select a suitable mounting location considering the following:
• Keep the display unit out of direct sunlight.
• The temperature and humidity should be moderate and stable.
• Locate the unit away from exhaust pipes and vents.
• The mounting location should be well ventilated.
• Mount the unit where shock and vibration are minimal.
• Keep the unit away from electromagnetic field generating equipment such as motor,
generator.
• For maintenance and checking purposes, leave sufficient space at the sides and
rear of the unit and leave slack in cables.
• A magnetic compass will be affected if placed too close to the display unit. Observe
the compass safe distances shown in the Safety Instructions to prevent interference
to a magnetic compass.
Mounting procedure
Follow the procedure below to mount the display unit. Refer to the outline drawing at
the back of this manual for mounting dimensions.
1. Fix the hanger by self-tapping screws (φ5×20, supplied).
2. Screw the knob bolts into the display unit, set the unit to the hanger, and tighten
the knob bolts.
