AIR CLEANER

The air cleaner is located under the
fuel tank. If the elements have
become clogged with dust, intake
resistance will increase with a result-
ant decrease in power output and an
increase in fuel consumption. If you
use your motorcycle under normal
low-stress conditions, you should ser-
vice the air cleaner at the intervals
specified. If you ride in dusty, wet or
muddy conditions, you will need to
inspect the air cleaner element much
more frequently. Use the following
procedure to remove the element and
inspect it.
! WARNING
Operating the engine without the
air cleaner element in place can be
hazardous. A flame can spit back
from the engine to the air intake
box without the air cleaner ele-
ment to stop it. Severe engine
damage can also occur if dirt
enters the engine due to running
the engine without the air cleaner
element.
Never run the engine without the
air cleaner element in place.
