INTRODUCTION

ABOUT THIS MANUAL

This manual explains in detail the individual components that may comprise an MLA Mini
system. System wiring and rigging is explained and the two key software packages are covered.
It is not however the intention for this manual to be the sole tutorial medium for those wishing
to use the system. Each system sale is accompanied by a one-day training course which covers
use of the system and includes hands-on setting up and de-rigging. A growing number of trained
technicians have completed the course. In no circumstances should a system be used without
a trained MLA technician present. This manual is intended as a reference for those who have
completed the course, NOT as a replacement for it.

ABOUT THE MLA MINI DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

MLA Mini is the latest Martin Audio product to utilise a revolutionary multicellular approach to
sound distribution in venues of all sizes. Unlike other line array designs which concentrate on
generating a coherent wavefront of the sound leaving the front of the array, the MLA approach is
to aim to achieve as coherent a wavefront as possible at the audience position. Benefiting from
Martin Audio's superb acoustic design, the system makes it possible to achieve a phenomenally
even distribution of sound to each and every audience member and to ensure minimum sound
leakage into areas where it is not wanted, something that no other system can offer.
The combination of integral amplification and DSP offers a hitherto unheard-of level of control
in an ultra-lightweight loudspeaker system. In conjunction with Martin Audio's two software
applications - Display 2.2 for system design and VU-Net for network control, outstanding levels
of consistent, high quality audio can be distributed to every point throughout the audience in a
venue.
The rigging design of MLA Mini systems has been based on the existing popular and efficient
Martin Audio line array systems, but with some innovative improvements. This allows
phenomenally quick system rigging and de-rigging, particularly aided by the absence of separate
amplifier racks.
