Using MLA Mini with digital audio sources

The MLA Mini's audio input may be configured as either analogue or AES3 digital. The same
XLR connector is used in both cases.
Selection of an analogue or digital audio input is made via Vu-Net software. The six factory
Presets all configure the input connector for analogue audio; however, if a Preset configuring the
MLA Mini for use with AES3 audio is saved in one of the User memories, the XLR input will be
switched from analogue to digital when that Preset is selected by whatever means. This implies
that configuring the input connector as analogue or digital may be performed from the cabinet
itself, without a network connection of any kind, provided that a Preset has been previously
saved which uses the AES3 input capability.

Optional system components

Merlin
Merlin (Part No. ASF80001) is a 1U 19" rackmounting unit combining U-Net and Ethernet hubs
with a 4-in, 10-out audio DSP section. When used with an MLA Mini system, Merlin generally
acts as a network interface and hub, interfacing the MSX onboard DSPs to the computer running
the Display 2.2 and Vu-Net software applications. Merlin also offers an extensive range of audio
processing functions which can be used to provide audio matrix functions: e.g., to feed other
speakers such as side or front fills, or delays. The DSP can also be used to provide crossover
functionality when using separate passive speakers as part of the system, etc.

4. BACK - returns to the previous screen displayed.
5. PC - two indicators (CON and ACT) show the activity of the Ethernet port on the rear
panel (the primary PC connection). The CON LED ('Connected') will illuminate when
an Ethernet connection is established via this port. The ACT LED ('Activity') will flash
whenever there is data transfer in progress.
6. U-NET - The U-NET LEDs for the rear panel U-NET ports 1 & 2 indicate U-NET
connections, data transfer and errors.
7. USB
2.0 Type B port - the USB connection is used as a service port for Firmware
upgrades and Merlin diagnostics. A standard USB Type A to Type B cable will be
required.
THE REMAINING FRONT PANEL CONTROLS AND INDICATORS ARE CONCERNED WITH
MERLIN'S AUDIO AND DSP FUNCTIONS, WHICH ARE NOT ESSENTIAL FOR USE WITH AN
MLA MINI SYSTEM.
