Measuring Disc Rotor Thickness
1.
Place the Caliper tips on both sides of the rotor and
lightly close it so that the flat side is flush on the rotor
surface (this side of the rotor must be flat to get an accu-
rate reading). Make sure the pointed tip is in any scor-
ing on the rotor.
2.
The display will show the Disc Rotor Thickness. Your
service manual (not included) will state the minimum
allowed rotor thickness.
Measuring Ball Joint Play
1.
You will be measuring from the top to the bottom of the Ball Joint when the Ball is
moved from the top position to the bottom position.
2.
The vehicle must be safely suspended so that the front suspension arms are hanging
loose. Place the Caliper tips at convenient locations both at the top and bottom of the
Ball Joint. Press ZERO.
3.
Lift the spindle (wheel) while closing the Caliper on the Ball Joint as the Ball moves
from the top to the bottom position. Once all the play has been removed, check the
digital readout to see the Ball Joint Play. Check with your service manual for allowable
play.
