Troubleshooting

Symptom
Can't turn on the
DV-SP506?
The DV-SP506 turns itself
off when it's not being
used?
No picture?
No sound?

Possible cause
The power cord is not connected.
External interference is affecting the
DV-SP506's digital circuitry.
The Auto power off function will turn the
DV-SP506 off automatically after 20 minutes
of inactivity.
The wrong input source is selected on your TV.
The video cable is not connected properly.
The PAL Output Setting is set wrong for your
TV.
The SCART Output Setting is set wrong for
your TV.
No HDMI Video Output?
The HDMI Output Setting is set to Off.
Your TV doesn't support HDMI Resolution
settings of 480i (480i/576i), 720p, 1080i, and
1080p.
The connected component doesn't support
HDCP.
No Component Video Output?
Your TV does not support progressive scan-
ning.
While the HDMI OUT is on, the component
video output outputs progressive video.
HD JPEG mode is on.
No S-Video or Composite Video Output?
The Progressive setting is set to Progressive.
The Progressive setting is not set to interlaced.
HD JPEG mode is on.
The wrong input source is selected on your
hi-fi amp or AV receiver.
The audio cable is not connected properly.
Your hi-fi amp or AV receiver is turned off.
Not all of the analog and digital audio outputs
work with all disc types and formats.
Your AV receiver or TV may not support DSD.
Remedy
Connect the power cord to a suitable wall outlet
(page 29).
Turn off the DV-SP506, wait five seconds, then try
turning it on again. If that fails, disconnect the
power cord from the wall outlet, wait ten seconds,
reconnect it, then try turning it on again.
The Auto power off function can be turned on or off
as required (page 58).
On your TV, select the input to which the
DV-SP506 is connected.
Check the video cable and correct as necessary.
Change the PAL Output Setting to suit your TV
(page 50).
Make sure your TV supports the selected video
output format (page 51).
Try pressing the [HDMI] button on the front panel
repeatedly to switch the HDMI OUT on, and then
pressing the [RESOLUTION] button repeatedly to
get picture (page 46).
If the DV-SP506 is connected to your AV receiver,
try connecting it directly to your TV. It will not
work if you connect to a component that doesn't
support HDCP (page 19).
Try pressing the [RESOLUTION] button repeat-
edly to switch to Interlaced (page 46).
HD JPEG mode can only be used with the HDMI
OUT.
When set to Progressive, only the component video
output outputs video.
Press and hold down the Previous [
and then press the [ON/STANDBY] button to
change the component video output to interlaced
(page 49). Make sure the PROGRESSIVE indica-
tor is not on.
HD JPEG mode can only be used with the HDMI
OUT.
On your hi-fi amp or AV receiver, select the input to
which the DV-SP506 is connected.
Check the audio cable and correct as necessary.
Turn on your hi-fi amp or AV receiver.
See pages 25 and 27 for details on how the
DV-SP506 outputs audio from each output.
Set the HDMI Audio Out setting to Auto, 6ch
PCM, or 2ch PCM (page 51).
