USB audio interface*

You can connect audio devices such as an iPod
or a USB device (MP3 player, USB memory
stick) to the USB audio interface. You can oper-
ate these via the iDrive.
The common audio files, e.g. MP3, WMA, WAV
(PCM) and AAC as well as playlists in M3U for-
mat, can be played.
Because of the huge number of audio devices
on the market, operation via the vehicle cannot
be ensured for every audio device.
Ask your BMW Service which audio devices are
suitable.

your audio device. It is located under the centre
armrest.<
iPod
To connect the iPod, use the BMW cable
adapter for Apple iPod. For further information,
contact BMW Service or you can find it on the
Internet at www.bmw.com
For sound over the vehicle loudspeakers, con-
nect the iPod with connectors 1 and 2.
The menu structure of the iPod is supported by
the USB audio interface.

Use the flexible adapter cable provided
for connecting in order to protect the USB
interface and your USB device from
For replay via the car loudspeakers, connect the
USB device with connection 2.
After being connected for the first time, the
information for all tracks (e.g. artist, genre) and
the playback lists of the USB device are trans-
ferred to the vehicle. This process can take a
few moments. The time it takes depends on the
USB device and on the number of tracks.
The information from up to four USB devices for
a total of approx. 20,000 tracks can be stored in
the car.
If you connect a fifth USB device, the informa-
tion on the tracks of the first USB device stored
in the vehicle is erased.
Music tracks with integrated Digital
Rights Management (DRM) cannot be
played.<
